Dido

Mellow trip-popper Dido is garnering rave reviews for her more reflective new album 'Safe Trip Home'. Sumptuous strings and grandiose arrangements make these expansive songs well worth a listen.

Will Young

Who'd have thought that crooner Will Young would still have been going strong now when he pipped Gareth Gates to the Pop Idol crown back in 2002? He's currently basking in comparisons between his new album 'Let It Go' and George Michael's classic 'Older'.

Katy Perry

Bursting onto the scene in 2008 with the titillating worldwide hit, 'I Kissed A Girl', Katy Perry has already made a name for herself with her unconvential dress sense and irreverent presenting stint at the MTV Europe Awards.

Amy Winehouse

As of September this year it was reported that our Amy hadn't been near a studio for all of 2008, but her record label remain confident that a new album will be out 'soon'. Winehouse fans will have to content themselves with her forthcoming appearance on a Quincy Jones tribute album.

Duffy

Everyone's favourite home-grown singer-songwriter this year, Duffy's debut 'Rockferry' rocketed to number one in the charts and has sold over 3.4 million copies so far. Not bad for a scrap of a thing from Bangor. Long may her success continue.

Beyonce

The new Mrs Jay-Z's vice-like hold over the world of R&B has loosened slightly this year, as rumour has it that she was forced to stoop to poaching a song promised to Leona Lewis. With Beyonce's writing talents, we doubt it'll be long before this fierce Queen's back on her throne.

Britney Spears

The UK continued its fascination with this oh-so American girl as Womanizer spelled a welcome return to form for la Spears musically. The latest single 'Circus' is 'a rampaging monster of a song' according to her adoring critics.

Rihanna

Rihanna's 'Good Girl Gone Bad' album has notched up three worldwide number one singles for her this year, making her the female solo artist with the most number ones since the turn of the century. You go girl!

Madonna

The most successful woman in the music industry of all time, Madonna continues to fascinate us all with her bizarre foibles and somewhat too public personal life. Shame the music no longer packs the same punch - still with £300 million in the bank, we doubt this Material Girl cares.

Leona Lewis

2008 was the year that Leona made it huge, massive, ginormous in the music business. On 'Spirit''s release in the US, it went straight to the top of the hallowed Billboard 200 album chart, making Lewis the first British solo artist to top the chart with a debut album.
